GLASS ART Enamel Pohutukawa Leaf Necklace
A beautiful pair of pohutukawa leaves meet to make a unique necklace.
Each leaf has been hand-cut from copper then sanded and cleaned before enamelling. A combination of transparent enamels have been sifted onto the copper base several times to result in multicoloured leaves. From dark reds, to rust and dark greens, they also contain a light shimmer of gold (resulting from a reaction between the enamels).
FINAL PHOTO: The backs have been counter-enamelled meaning that enamel has also been added to the back to balance the weight of each piece, preventing cracking and increasing durability.
The inspiration behind these lovely earrings, like all of our work is from the beautiful nature in Aotearoa. Pohutukawa is a native tree that is known as New Zealand's Christmas Tree, since it bears crimson red flowers, but it's leaves are also beautiful and depending on the seasons, can become multicoloured.
The pendant is approximately 30x32mm It is strung on a 70cm sterling silver chain.
